Chapter 8 Blog Post

Summary: Have you ever played a game in which everything was jumbled and with an insane person at that? Well Alice has; don't believe me? Then hear this! Alice came upon three gardeners near the entrance of a garden; where they were painting white roses red, because they made a mistake and if they didn't fix it they would get there head cut off by the queen's orders. They explained this to Alice, and soon after the queen and her procession came about on their way to the croquet grounds. When the queen came into contact with them she asked who Alice was, and she replied with her name, but when she asked who the three cards were (the gardeners) she replied with a smart comment that the queen did not like so much to which the queen ordered for Alice’s head to be beheaded. Then, Alice actually stood for self which quite shocked her for based on her reaction it’s safe to say that no ones has opposed her before. After the gardeners explained halfway what they were doing the queen ordered them to be beheaded, which then triggered alice to help the gardeners which she did by hiding them from the executioners in a flower pot. Soon after, after telling the queen she knew how to play croquet they went to the playing field for the game. The game was sort of the same except for the fact that the mallets were flamingos, the balls were hedgehogs, and the arches were the soldiers, and last but not least the queen was beheading those who basically tried to oppose her in the game. After a while, Alice notices the Cashmere cat and begins to talk to it which is when the king came and decided that it had to go, which is when the executioner, the king, and the queen started arguing about killing the cat, but the cat vanished soon enough after the issue was resolved and it was decided that he had to be executed. To which they decided to get the duchess before he vanished, but they couldn't find the cat when the king and executioner came back, so they continued the game.

Connections: This article explains how croquet came to be and basically it explains how the weird game of croquet in Alice in wonderland came to be. For example, in this article it says that opponents would often make it harder for the other players by moving the balls, hence how the hedgehogs kept getting together and fighting, then it said that this is a very “vicious” sport which is why people tend to cheat, and the queen trying to cut everybody who opposed her heads off and the weird tools at that for it would definitely be easier to play with real mallets, arches, and balls, but the difficulty of the game was increased when they got tools that were really hard to use in general which is also an example of how this sport, to Lewis Carroll was really hard and pointless, for that's how he perceived it in the story.

More connections: This article shows not directly but it shows how the red queen and queen victoria was connected, and or the archetype feminist. What i’ve found from this article through much digging is queen victoria had more jurisdiction than the king over most matters, just like how the king is the queen's shadow in the story. Than, i’ve found that shockingly enough that the Queen Victoria didn't like childbearing and often made comments about it and i can only connect that not the red queen, but to the duchess! Lastly, it's argued that the queen of hearts resembles queen victoria like she’s a caricature of sorts, and proof of this is how the queen acts and is cruel and ruthless, and how she completely doesn’t acknowledge the king's authority just like queen victoria who knew!

Chapter 7 "The Mad Tea Party" (Haven)

           

           

        The Victorian era had a lot of rules, in which the tea party was one. In the story Alice in the wonderland chapter 7, the hatter and March hare had a tea party until Alice came in to join. The table was large but for some reason they said “no room, no room. “but “there was plenty of room” said Alice, Alice then sat on the other side of table, Later on, the mad hatter then started coming up with riddles, Alice tried to figure out the riddles but it didn't make sense. The hatter pulled out a watch that only told the day of the month and not the time like a regular watch. Alice said that her watch doesn’t tell her what year it is, because it stays the same for a long time. Hatter comment “which is just the case with mine” Alice didn’t understand the Hatter comment, So Alice then said. “I think you might do something better with time, then waste it in riddles that have no answers. Alice stated that it was the stupidest tea-party in her life and picked her way through the woods, after walking in the woods she founded a door, there was a little glass table and a golden key she unlocked the door with a key and it led her to a garden.

After reading this chapter, I think that Lewis Carroll did not like the way the Victorian era was because, in the story the character were being rude. When the young lady Alice walked in the room the man is supposed to stand up and greet Alice like they did in the Victorian era, because of the rule they had. I also think that the mad hatter was referred to as Lewis Carroll because as you should know Lewis Carroll had serious problems, and The Hatter was referred to people who had a disease called mercury poison this disease came from a factory. It can lead to slurred speeches, memory loss, tremors, and excessive timidity, And I say this connects to Lewis Carroll because he had a lot of issues but the one issue that stand out the most was. He always would have speech problems only in front of adults, and hatter usually would have slurred speeches.

Connection: This story connects to 2016 because the Victorian era has affect us today still, i say this because the men usually go to work and they leave the kids home with their wife, well that is still happening today, another thing that still is the same is the Victorian man also expected that when he was home that his home would be clean and well-ordered, warm and, have a good meal on the table.

Chapter 6 Thoughts on Alice

Summary: Alice, noticed two footman running out of the wood. One footman gave the other an invitation sent from the queen to the duchess that said it was an invitation so that they could play croquet together. Soon after Alice came out of the wood and went up to the door and started knocking, but the footman said it was no in knocking, This being said, Alice decided to ask the footman a few questions, but the footman didn't really give Alice a good or solid answer, so after realizing that the footman is useless Alice decided to just walk in which she did As she walked in she seen a cook who used too much pepper in her soup in every room it was Smokey, even the duchess were sneezing and the baby except the cook. Alice started off the conversation and asked about the grinning cat, but just like the footman she got nowhere after getting an answer to this question. Alice then heard the duchess sing a lullaby to the so-called baby, but it was very harsh, the cook continuously threw the baby, after that, the duchess offered Alice the pleasure of nursing the baby while she went and played croquet. Alice grabbed the baby from the air as the duchess tossed it towards her, and decided to take it with her for the duchess would surely kill it if she didn't, but Alice soon realized that the baby had transformed into a pig so Alice let it go, then the cat appeared out of thin air Alice soon headed out to the March Hare’s home only to start wishing she went to the hatter.

Jordan Hinmon/Connections: This page is related to the story because it deals with the characteristics of abusive mothers and how they come to be. For example, the page states that parents get very upset when children don't meet their requirement when it comes to school or other things. So this connects because the baby/pig kept grunting and that could be a valid reason for the duchess to be “mad” and crazy as she is, also the page says that these unrealistic expectations of a child's behavior is seen when the child is normally an infant or small children, which is exactly what the baby/pig was, so this is a valid reasoning for the duchess behavior (not really because she went overboard, but still).

Jordan Hinmon/Connections: This is common knowledge from ELA class this duchess acts like the old lady archetype because of exactly how she was acting towards the baby/pig and even The old lady archetype represents a trickster, in a way she was tricking the baby/pig for she was singing it a lullaby but it wasn't a good one and she was nursing it, but not in the correct way, for no one throws a child into the air multiple likes that and expects it to be ok it’s just common sense.

Haven connections: In the story Alice in the wonderland the baby was being beat by the duchess, and i found an article about how this lady would get yelled at, and get called names by her mother, because of the mistakes she did. This affected her Adulthood life so she had to go to therapy to try and build her self-esteem. I say this relates to Alice in the wonderland because Alice saw the baby being thrown and beat by the duchess. And like the therapist helping the women. Alice knew she needed to help or the baby would die, well finally when the baby was free it transformed into a pig, when the lady went to Therapy she being to be a better person and i feel as though when the baby transformed into a pig it was becoming something better life and leaving behind its bad memories. In the story Alice in the wonderland. In Chapter 5, Alice came upon a caterpillar. For a While both of them were staring at each other until the caterpillar spoke. Alice was telling the Caterpillar that she was Afraid. But he was confused about what she meant by it, Meanwhile minutes passed and the caterpillar asked Alice what size she would like to be?… she suggest that she wanted to be three inches taller. Alice took a piece of the mushroom from both sides one side made her smaller the other made her bigger but she didn’t know which was which so she had to test it out, the result made her rapidly smaller, she then had to swallow her left bit to grow again. In order for Alice to be her regular size again she had to test out different results. Before she got back to her normal self she had taken the left side of the mushroom and grew to an unimaginable height. This being so, a bird came out of its tree and started attacking her saying that she was a serpent because of her long neck. Alice exclaimed that she wasn't a serpent, and the bird said that serpents ate eggs all the time, and after explaining that little girls ate eggs just as much, the bird just said that that makes little girls a type of serpent and Alice couldn't argue with that fact.

Connection: Alice is growing up but she is not sure why she is changing. She is trying to figure out who she really is and why her size is growing and changing more and more. As you get older you have to experience different changes, even if it’s good or bad. In the Story Alice was testing out which piece of mushroom did what well she was experiencing different changes in her body due to the mushroom. But she still learned that at the end of the day she can only be herself and no else.

This connects with the story because Alice doesn't know what height she wanted to be, she just knew she didn't want to be small anymore. With that being said, without a clear directive where will you go in life?

This connects with the story because Alice doesn't know who she is and the caterpillar in a way makes her this way to show her that she won't get anywhere without knowing who she is. Without an identity what is life

Chapter 4 (Haven & Jordan)

Chapter 4 is very unusual, yet interesting in the eyes of many. The rabbit is concerned about a supposed duchess who will execute him if he doesn't get to the queen with the needed tools in time. While frantically scattering about, He noticed Alice and starts yelling out “Mary Ann” name, due to Alice being afraid she ran off to his house to go look for his gloves and fan. While doing so she stumbled upon a bottle that said “drink me”and so, she decided to drink it hoping that her height might be affected. Sure enough, Alice grew larger than the house itself and was stuck inside the house. Soon after, the rabbit came yelling Mary Ann’s name again, not noticing Alice was gigantic in the house. Soon the real Mary Ann came about and explained to the rabbit that there was a gigantic person inside the house and the rabbit came to the conclusion that Alice needed to be removed. By doing so the rabbit called upon Bill to help after much failure between Mary Ann and the Rabbit. Soon after more failure the option to burn down the house came upon which startled Alice, After trying to burn the house down, they later started throwing pebbles at Alice that turned into cakes,  so she than decided to eat some which changed her height again. She ran as she got smaller, And finally she got away. But she ran into a puppy which she played with until she was able to get away.

In english class we, thought of how certain characters are like sentences. As a matter of fact, a few characters can be compared to sentences in a way which tells a lot about how the character acts. For example, Alice’s sister, she’s like a simple sentence you know? No independent or dependent clause, she’s just there. What we mean is her sister isn't a main role in the story and is not very loud or needy in the story like a complex or compound-complex sentence, and this tells a lot about her personality. These sentence connections with a character's personality works in many contexts for what you're trying to accomplish, like if you want to know exactly how a character is before you actually get to know them fully it would be good if you connected them to certain sentences for a reference or a prediction of who the character really is. Who knew? You can tell how people act and who they are based on sentences? Neat if you ask me. Knowing that would be very useful especially when meeting new people, you should try it!

This is a great topic for what we're talking about in our connection and how Alice and some characters can connect to certain types of sentences. What we mean is archetypes is a topic that is used very commonly, but in our opinion not in the right purpose. For a  thought, think about it in this way archetypes are describers, you have no clue what i’m talking about? Well, understand this like certain sentences archetypes can describe people in many ways than you think and can be debated that it’s better at describing than certain sentences therefore it's a great connection to the story and how the sentences connect to the story.

There's more to meets the eye when it comes to how to connect characters with their behavior or characteristics, and we all know what that is right! What we mean is we've found that you can describe teenagers with basic sentence structure… Because some teenagers are basic, like basic structure. Like nouns, pronouns, verbs, etc, but it’s really hard to do so. For example, you could describe Bill as an action verb because the rabbit wants him to do everything and Bill does it so he’s constantly moving period, or you could use the DoDo as an example, because he could be a conjunction and we say this because he joined many animals from the sea and Alice to do a caucus race and what does a conjunction do? They conjoin!

Chapter 3 Thoughts on Alice

Connections: Alice during this chapter seems very lost as everyone starts to talk after being stranded and wet, and with the caucus race it makes sense. For example, this article

http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/01/politics/iowa-caucuses-2016-highlights/   is talking about this year’s 2016 caucus race, and with many people not knowing about the caucus race unless you keep up with politics, I can see how Alice is lost when the Dodo bring up the caucus race, it makes perfect sense also how the Dodo makes this caucus race seem very meaningless, which is exactly how the author himself feels. Which is how this article connects with Alice for an example to show that the caucus race isn't as simple as people think. Also, in Alice’s timeline learning isn't something she would be doing, she would be doing housework or taking care of kids in her timeline.

I connected this to people at school and the caucus race because, at school people just go to socialize and they end up failing, school is really getting your education. This connects to Alice because when the caucus race was going on it was pointless they continue to run around until they got dry but they never stayed dry it was just a repeated cycle, like school once you start to not do your work you will have a continued cycle of not completing your work at school. People just come to socialize and that is just pointless.   

To summarize, Alice is washed up on a small shore with a small group of strange talking animals which include the following: a Dodo, a mouse, a duck, an eaglet, and much more. The small group was talking over ways to help themselves warm up after their trek in the water, and mouse drolled on about some weird English story thinking it would warm them up, but it didn't work. So, the Dodo brought a thing called the caucus race where the animals ran around until they warmed up, well this wasn't a really good idea because every time they got dry or warm. They would get wet all over again. This process was pointless because, they would continue to get wet. The author was showing that the caucus race is pointless by showing the animals to run around the rock until they got wet but they never stayed dry.

Connections: Alice is getting weird and tends to talk to herself more and more the farther she goes down the hole and she’s starting to wonder who she is now. We think this article connects to this article https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200307/the-dangers-loneliness because the article talks about how loneliness can lead to deprivation of learning and memory, and excessive self-talking, so it’s not confirmed but she could be acting like this because of her loneliness and lack of friends

This connects to Alice Because, Alice is very emotional and her emotions change almost every second, As if she is bipolar and is very confused about who she is.

Alice is socially awkward which is why she doesn't have many friends. We say this because girls at this time were social, but they were socially stable, Alice tends to talk to herself which isn't normal for a girl of her caliber, and in her timeline. Also, Alice is very emotional and that isn't really a matter of timeline in her case because girls are naturally emotional, but girls never were on and off like she is, Alice is basically bipolar and just can't control the way she feels at times. It seems as if she doesn't understand who she is, and how to mature.

To summarize, Alice heard feet in the distance, it was a white rabbit. The rabbit had a pair of white kid gloves and in one hand and a large fan, after a while the rabbit dropped the white kid gloves and the fan and ran into the darkness as fast as he could. Alice later then picked up the items, while holding the fan she started to shrink, but she wasn't paying attention and realized that she was smaller to about two feet high instead of the nine feet she was a few seconds ago. She then started to swim in her tears that she made at nine feet high and perceived to see a mouse in her wake, she then started talking to the mouse. That begin to make her seem strange and unusual.

This video connected with this article because it is said that kids with ADHD tend to have less maturity than kids without ADHD, and kids with this can’t seem to focus on one thing at a time and seems a lot like the way Alice acts, therefore I’m inferring that Alice could have ADHD which is how this article connects to chapter 19 (Brain Maturity May Lag In Kids With ADHD. (2007, November 12).

 I think that she doesn't understand what consequences of your actions means or else she wouldn't be one to wonder off by herself especially in this timeline. So in the end, we have both concurred that Alice isn't exactly a normal or at least wise girl when it comes to cause and effect and or consequences of her actions.

This story is very unique, it got me thinking more about Alice and how every fantasy story has that one innocent young girl who is growing up. (Deputies: Man who reported falling into hole found. (2016, January 22).  

First, Alice was with her sister doing nothing just talking, but then she came across a rabbit with a coat and a watch and decided to follow it down a rabbit hole. All of a sudden she fell down a rabbit hole. While falling in the rabbit hole, she and the rabbit innocents were fading away. When she finally landed she had seem to have lost the rabbit and had checked many doors before giving up and crying.

To start off, in the book Alice in the world land. Alice is a very awkward girl, but this isn't really a bad thing. Alice is a very curious, and immature girl. And it got us thinking a lot more about Alice and how every fantasy story has that one innocent young girl that grows up. She doesn't really understand the consequences of her actions which has us thinking that she has three things to work on which are, focus, responsibility, and maturity. In our opinion, this connects to girls growing up and learning how to Be proper because girls in her time were not able to be curious and immature about situations, and Alice is the complete opposite of that which is how it connects to how girls grow up and learning how to be proper. Which makes us wonder if she has every actually been taught proper educate by her sister or if her sister even knows what proper educate is it would be a real surprise if they knew, but never applied it in their life time.
